Spin this, why don’t you
by Jeff RosenbergHere’s the secret of success few business owners ever reveal. It involves a fair degree of pain — the pain of trading your children’s time.
The real deal about building a business, at least if you’re serious about it, well, let me put it this way: if I read one more small business owner post that his or her joy is found in being able to take a spinning class at 10 am on a Wednesday, I’m going to ride that spinning bicycle over his or her head. Then grind him or her up in the spokes. Because the last thing you control when you own a business is your time.
My 14-year-old son is struggling in a couple classes. It’s not because he’s lacking brightness — it’s actually because, as I’ve warned him, he’s too popular (a curse Blogenberg was never stricken with!). And I feel guilty. Because I know, as much as I dedicate my life to only two things, business and family, if I weren’t so committed to business I would have done something more.
So don’t tell me the sweet smell of success is spinning class. Keep that garbage for Oprah because I run a business in the real world.
